Year: 2025 | Type: One-act chamber opera for tenor and digital piano | Duration: ca. 41' 27''
Asteria presents a bold reimagining of Homer's Odyssey for the modern age. In this operatic monologue for tenor, the ancient tale of Ulysses is transported to the depths of space, where our protagonist is an astronaut on a mission to reach the asteroid 201 Penelope. The libretto is crafted entirely from fragments of Samuel Butler's renowned English translation. No words have been altered; instead, the adaptation emerges through the staging, with futuristic scenery, costumes, and background projections establishing a cosmic setting. The opera has a Spanish adaptation that I made myself, which allows it to be performed in both English and Spanish.
Notes:
Since this is an opera, presenting a digital recreation here wouldn't work, not only because artificially modeling the human voice remains very difficult—although some recent developments will solve this in the near future—but primarily because the action cannot be shown.
However, if you are interested in hearing a digital recreation—no matter how rudimentary—because you are considering this work for performance, please contact me.
Furthermore, given the large scale of this dramatic work, the score and individual parts cannot be sold online. You can view the perusal score to evaluate the work, and if you are interested in purchasing the material, please contact me to arrange a meeting and discuss the terms.
