Year: 2001 | Type: Single-movement work for solo piano | Duration: ca. 3' 30''
I composed this piece in December 2000 and January 2001 as part of my application to the National University of Music of Peru (formerly the National Conservatory of Music). The title suggests the depiction of prehistoric creatures' actions. The composition consists of three distinct moments: a thunderous opening, followed by a tense calm, and a return to the initial agitation, concluding abruptly.
Notes:
The first version of Paleodrama was performed in 2002 by Peruvian pianist Iván Marquina. Shortly after, Giuliana Contreras also performed it in Chile and the United States. Since then, other pianists have performed the piece on stages around the world, including renowned Peruvian artists such as Carmen Escobedo and Patricia Ramírez-Gastón.
The first version was recorded by Enriqueta Rojas and included in the album Music by Peruvian Composers, produced by the Pontical Catholic University of Peru and the National University of Music.
Since there is no high-quality recording of the final version, which is the one I want to make known, I have decided to include a link to a digital recreation here.
