Year: 2021 | Type: Concerto for piano and orchestra | Duration: ca. 28' 50''
Titled Remembrance, the genesis of this work emerged in the wake of Kael Zollner's untimely departure. As I embarked on my master's program at the University of Birmingham with a plan to compose a symphonic work, I felt an undeniable urge to pay tribute to Kael in a way that transcended traditional conventions. Kael's fondness for the piano echoed in my mind, guiding me towards the choice of a piano concerto, and his affection for Pablo Neruda's Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair played a pivotal role in shaping the piece, as each movement draws inspiration from a specific poem within the collection.
Notes:
This work was premiered in 2022 by the Peruvian pianist Diego Puertas and the National Symphony Orchestra of Peru, under the direction of Fernando Valcárcel. Subsequently, it was performed again in Arequipa, in 2023, with the Arequipa Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Enrique Victoria.
Despite the above, a good quality recording wasn't possible. Although a video of the premiere exists on YouTube, I prefer to include a digital recreation here.
Since this work has been recently revised, the individual parts for the new version have not yet been prepared. If you purchase the full score and are interested in performing the piece, please contact me and I will prepare the parts at no extra cost. (I don't rent out orchestral parts.)
